CoWN Student Excellence Scholarship

Purpose

To recognize outstanding students that are continuing their education within any field of study, at any college.

Eligibility 

Student must have shown in a minimum of three (3) Colorado Wyoming Nebraska Stock Horse Association (CoWN) sanctioned horse shows in the current calendar year. The CoWN Winterfest Championship may be utilized as one of the required CoWN sanctioned shows that the student has shown at for eligibility, even though the show may not commence prior to the application deadline. Should CoWN Winterfest Championship commence after the scholarship application deadline and a student has submitted a scholarship application and the student does not show in the CoWN Winterfest Championship while having only shown in two (2) CoWN sanctioned shows prior to the CoWN Winterfest Championship, the student will be considered to not meet the eligibility requirements and the student’s application will be pulled. Eligible students may be a graduating senior in high school, or a college freshman, sophomore, junior or senior. Students must be in good academic standing. Applicants must be a current CoWN member in good standing.

Basis of Award 

The selection of the scholarship recipient will be based upon the student’s GPA, activities, and CoWN involvement. Students must have a GPA of 2.5 or better (on a 4-point scale) and transcripts must be included with application.

Award 

The quantity and value of scholarships will be determined by the scholarship committee. Monies awarded to scholarship recipients must be applied toward the recipient’s tuition or required educational materials. Scholarship award must be applied towards tuition or educational materials for the next semester after the scholarship is awarded. Monies will be made payable to the student’s school in the name of the student. Scholarship award winners will be announced at the during the awards ceremony at the CoWN Winterfest Championship.

Application Requirements

1. Submit a completed scholarship application form with all questions fully answered

2. Provide a copy of current high school and/or college transcripts for student applying

3. Provide a recent photograph of the student applying

4. Provide two (2) letters of recommendation from non-family members

5. Applicant must be a current CoWN member in good standing
